Why? What is the need?

FOOD SECURITY- SDG 2

“Nearly one in three people in the world (2.37 billion) did not have access to adequate food in 2020” (United Nations)

…One out of four individuals above 15 years of age in (Africa), on average, was “hungry but did not eat or went without eating for a whole day because there was not enough money or other resources for food in 2014/15 (UNFAO)

Economic Empowerment - SDG 8 (plus 1&5)

“Enter agroforestry. While no panacea, agroforestry, a relatively young science that has its roots in the ancient and widespread practise of integrating trees into farming systems and landscapes, does offer a multitude of tree-based solutions to many of the issues addressed by the SDGs…(for example) ICRAF scientists noted that agroforestry can be integral in a green economy that includes tree crops, timber, diversified production and value chains. For this reason, it has potential to contribute to SDG 1, to “end poverty in all its forms everywhere” and SDG 8, provide “decent work and economic growth”. (World Agroforestry Centre – ICRAF)

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION - SDG 13 (&15)

“Changing precipitation patterns, rising temperatures and more extreme weather contributed to mounting food insecurity, poverty and displacement in Africa in 2020, compounding the socio-economic and health crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new multi-agency report coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).” (United Nations)

“From 1990 to 2015, Uganda has lost 63% of its forests at an annual rate of 2.51 percent.(National Authority-NFA)
